Composed by Richard Peaslee. Richard Peaslee became a uniquely diverse composer writing both jazz and classical scores while also writing extensively for theatre. This piece combines the fluidity of the flugelhorn with the audacity of the trumpet. Peaslee entitled this piece Nightsongs possibly to encourage a landscape of tone colors; audience members are encouraged to interpret this piece freely. This piece challenges the trumpet player to play melodically/lyrically in the low registers of the fluegelhorn/trumpet as well as the high registers.
